Thinning and Transplanting
Plant Unit

In conjunction with AMSTI and the plant unit, the 3rd graders in Mrs. Susan Robertson's class lesson today was thinning and transplanting. Some plants are stronger than others. To help the stronger ones grow even better, you have to pull out the weak ones. This process is called thinning. After the students thinned the plants, they transplanted the extra ones to another planter. The students gently dug up the plant, roots and all, and replanted it.

To complete this activity, they used a toothpick, a hand lens and a pair of forceps.
