Students and teachers at Westhills Elementary in Bessemer have gotten involved with the Haiti relief efforts. Organized by Ms. Tiffany N. Caldwell (4th grade teacher) and Mrs. Claire Benjamin (2nd grade teacher), the "Cubs of Compassion" project was a complete success. The school was able to collect over 1700 items to be sent to Haiti. Some of the items collected included non-perishable food items, health and beauty aids, and over 20 cases of bottled water. The school delivered the items to the Bessemer YMCA for pick up from Mission Unlimited, an organization dedicated to servicing others. The students really enjoyed participating in every aspect of this project and were excited to have done something to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
